Do you find yourself feeling like the world is just spinning to fast?
You need to be here and here. And do this and do that. You need to shuttle the kids to and from school or practice. Make lunches, breakfasts and dinners. Laundry and grocery shopping.
The demands on our time are increasing. Have you noticed this or is it just me?
Not only are the demands on our time increasing but the costs of goods are increasing?
Have you noticed that the grocery bill is a little bit higher than it use to be? I have noticed that overall the cost of goods is rising. Groceries, gas, travel, you name it the cost is going up or the perks are going down.
In today’s world with the cost of goods and the needing to be here there and everywhere, we are just so busy.
When was the last time you sat down with your family or even your neighbor and had a good chat or attended an event you weren’t rushing to or worrying about paying for. Is it me or does the world seem to be on overdrive. Must have. Need this. Pay for it later. Class is in an hour. Oh the laundry needs to be folded. Oops, dinner needs to be fixed and baths need to be done.
It is time to slow down and simplify.
If you can step off the rat race and enjoy life for a few brief moments and watch the sunrise you will enjoy it. Trust me. You don’t need to be all things to all people and in all places at one time.
We took a trip this last year about 9 hours north of us and I was amazed. We visited family for 3 days, we stepped off the rat race for 3 days. Mind you we were still connected so we could check email. But the one thing that sticks with me was the lack of noise.
I took our dog for a walk in the morning and when I am use to hearing honking and cars whizzing by late for this or that I heard nothing. Nothing but birds and the wind in the trees. It was amazing. And honestly I long for that. I am not ready to move 9 hours north but I long for the simple and the step back from the crazy.
5 Ways To Keep Simple In A Crazy World:
1. Shut it off, put it away and enjoy reality.
I am sure this has happened to you. You go out to dinner or you are talking to someone and their nose is in their phone. We live in such a technological world that you could honestly work anywhere, have your groceries delivered, have someone or something cook you dinner and you could watch reality on television. But is it really reality? Put away the cellphone, the tablet and enjoy the people and the things around you. Life is meant to be lived, not surfed via your fingertips.
2. Family dinners, enjoy them.
This is a huge thing in our house. I grew up in a home where family dinners weren’t a thing. You ate in front of the television or your were rushing from school to activities and eating as you go. Or one parent was working late so you ate with who was there. My husband and I made a pact that family dinners would occur, everyone around a clean table eating dinner and discussing the day. We truly enjoy this. It is time for conversation, connection and family values. Step off the busy, put away the phone and the to do list, sit down and enjoy a good meal with your friends or family. Don’t rush either, spend the time, make memories.
3. Seek out frugality, it will surprise you.
You don’t have to pay full price. You don’t have to have it all to be happy. You can live well with less. Frugal people aren’t broke they are living within their means, budgeting for their future. Seeking out more frugal options, opting for a simpler lifestyle will and can decrease your stress. Learn how to save money at the grocery store. Learn how to cook with a meal plan, learn how to make money from home and be a stay at home Mom. Frugality is a great way to keep sane in a crazy world.
4. Start a hobby you enjoy.
Do you really enjoy the busy, crazy must be here and there day to day of your 9-5 or 10-6 or 7-7? What if you could create a 30 minute or 60 minute step away from the crazy? Would it reduce your stress? Would it simplify your life? Try it. Take a yoga class. Or what about reading a good book with a cup of coffee or take up knitting. Do you love photography? Step back and do something you enjoy.
5. Stop trying to keep up, it’s not worth it.
Everyone wants it, needs it now. You are marketed to almost every moment of the day. Big flashy signs, television commercials, what a friend has. Stop trying to keep up. Stop spending every dollar you have trying to impress people you don’t like. The Joneses, the family you are trying to “keep up” with they are probably broke. The car – it’s on loan. The vacation – paid for with plastic. The pretty hair and pretty clothes all on loan or on credit. Most of the time the pretty picture you are trying to keep up with is just that a pretty picture a creation so that people will think that other people are doing better than they are. Step back and think about it do you really want to be in debt just to keep up? Or do you want to be happy with what you have and the future you are creating for your family. Honestly, I would rather be happy. Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else.
The world is crazy busy but every moment doesn’t have to be.
Step back, turn the cellphone off. Sit down and enjoy a meal with friends and family. Start thinking more frugally and stop trying to keep up with everyone. You can’t do it all nor should you have to. Be you. Start doing something you love. Step back and figure out what you truly want in this crazy world. Keep it simple, keep it real.
Have an amazing day,
Saving & Simplicity
