The cold weather is coming.
One of the easiest ways to save money during the colder weather season is to layer up or use a blanket to keep warm. Blankets make great DIY gifts too.
Yes, you could just go shopping for a blanket.
But, have you seen the prices on blankets in the department store. I saw a twin fleece blanket for $39.00. Which is a lot of money.
Why buy it when you can make it?!
Fleece blanket material comes in an array of patterns and sizes. You can even get fleece material with themed prints. During the fall and winter season most fabric stores will stock a wide range of fleece fabrics.
I opted for a simple black and grey pattern so the blanket I was making would go with just about anything and anywhere. I wanted a blanket that wasn’t going to “go out of style”. I wanted something that would be used again and again in the years to come.
The easiest blanket you will ever make.
Drop buy your local fabric store and pick out a fleece pattern you like. Opt to buy about two yards of fabric depending on the person that will be using the blanket. For smaller children you could go with about one yard to one and half yards. For adults I would stick to about one and half yards to two yards of material. If you are making a blanket for someone tall you could opt for over two yards of fabric.
Purchase the fabric and once you get home cut off any factory edges. Wash and dry the fabric separate from other items.
You now have the easiest blanket you will ever make. Simple and easy, you purchase the fleece fabric, cut to size, wash, dry and it is ready to use. No sewing involved. Fleece fabric is great as it already has a bonded edge and does not require a sewn edge for use. Once your material is washed and dried it is ready to use and enjoy.
Save money making your own do it yourself blankets.
When you are buying fleece checkout the prices. Stick to prices and patterns in your budget. Opt for a timeless pattern instead of a pattern that will be out of style next year.
I saved 50% off on my fleece because I waited and watched for the fabric to go on sale. I ended up making three blankets for the price that I would have gotten one in the department store.
Blankets make great gifts.
Everyone loves being cozy and warm. If you are looking for an easy, do it yourself gift this year for someone you care about give them a homemade blanket.
Have an amazing day!
