Let’s face it load after load doing the laundry can get expensive.
With the cost of laundry soap, electricity and water doing the laundry can get expensive. Add in boys and stains or in our house construction work clothes.
Do you ever feel that the laundry is never ending? I can’t help you with the piles of laundry, but I can give you a few tips to help decrease the costs involved with doing the laundry.
Here are 5 ways to save money on laundry:
- Only wash and dry full loads of laundry
- Hand wash your delicates
- Dry your clothes on a clothes line or drying rack
- Wash like colours together to keep your whites, white and your colours bright
- Use an economical laundry soap or make your own DIY laundry soap
In our home we currently use an inexpensive liquid laundry soap, we wash with cold water and use full load cycles. I use an indoor drying rack and I batch iron our clothes to save time and electricity.
Other ways to save on the laundry.
If you can skip buying clothes that require dry cleaning. The chemicals involved aren’t good for the environment and the costs involved with dry cleaning can be high. Invest in clothes that can be hand washed or cleaned in a domestic machine.
If you require the laundromat to wash your clothes opt to wash your own laundry instead of using the drop off service. You will save money. Also bring your own laundry detergent, the laundromat charges high prices for those small containers of detergent.
Save money on doing the laundry by using cheaper laundry soap, batch washing and hanging your clothes to dry. Experiment with DIY laundry soaps and save money. Depending on where you live and if you pay for water use or if your electricity costs are high try washing in cold water and see if you save money. Experiment and see what works for you.
Have a great day.
