Teaching your children responsibility is important.
Helping out around the house and partaking in the daily household activities is an important task for children to learn.
Today my son helped fold the laundry and start the washing machine including adding the right amount of laundry detergent. This task may seem simple to us adults but I feel it is important for my son to know how to do his own laundry. Yes, he is still young and living at home but this is a task he will value in the future.
Learning basic home making skills will save your children money in the future.
Many college students still pay for the overpriced service of drop, wash and fold not actually knowing how to do their own laundry or the savings value in learning how. I can proudly say my son will be doing his own laundry and believe me his future spouse will be happy he has learned this skill.
Teaching your children to help versus teaching them chores is important it creates a want in them to be responsible and to help others. As I type this my son has taken our dog for a walk and refreshed the dogs water bowl and is currently asking his Dad if he needs help in the garage. These are regular activities and they are not looked at as chores or hardships.
Every child is different and their ability will vary with age.
I am simply saying that teaching our children life skills and allowing them to partake in those skills instead of doing it for them is teaching them skills they will need for life. Including our children in the days activities and allowing them to try new tasks will encourage them to help versus them arguing at a chore list.
Let your child help you with the dishes, weed the garden, fold the laundry and help prepare meals.
If you have daughters teach them how to use tools like hammers and drills. A good friend of mine taught all her girls how to change a flat tire – Important skill! Teach your children these skills whether they are a girl or a boy and you will be adding value to their future independence. You will also be adding to their skills, skills that could help them save money or make money in their future.
Have a great day everyone.
